Pursuant to Section 318.1215, Florida Statutes and Section 122-35 of the Sarasota County Code, a $3.00 surcharge has been added to each civil traffic penalty in Sarasota County to enhance the funding of driver education programs in public and nonpublic schools located in Sarasota County.  The funds requested will provide collision avoidance training to approximately 300 high school students to teach them defensive driving techniques.  The training will be provided by four instructors from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Department throughout the 2008-2009 school year.
